In light of the fact that our favorite Américaine, Losie, recently joined our blog, I figured I would admit at least this much: I enjoy female French pop vocalists. There are plenty of them and, the best part is, there doesn’t seem to be much difference between ’60s bublegummer France Gall and American contemporary April March. The Canadian, Coeur de Pirate, aka Béatrice Martin, is no exception. She sounds nearly identical and just as good.
Listening to her most recent album, Blonde, one would never guess that Martin is a tattooed faux-blonde who starred as an underage porn star. Now 22, she has found a calling that won’t send the rest of us to jail just for enjoying it. Thanks Béatrice!
